The Boysen-TU Dresden Research Training Group for Young Researchers in Engineering, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, co-funded by the Friedrich and Elisabeth Boysen Foundation and the Technische Universität Dresden, offers a doctoral scholarship of January 1, 2023, for a maximum of 3 years, subject to available funds. The interdisciplinary The research training group, now in its fourth generation, conducts research on the general topic Hydrogen economy – strategic element of a future GreenGas agreement. It consists of four groups. Pole H: Techno-economic modeling of hydrogen value-added networks combines four sub-projects (SP).

A suitable person (m/f/x) is sought to work on the subject SP H4: H2 and H2-based fuels in internal combustion engine applications. The Professorship for Combustion Engineering and Drive Technology of the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences “Friedrich List” of TU Dresden is responsible for supervision. Interdisciplinary supervision takes place in the common rooms of the Research Training Group.

Summary:

The focus of the surveys is research on renewable fuels (ReFuels). This includes hydrogen as well as hydrogen-based fuels like ammonia and methanol, the latter being refined from hydrogen using recycled carbon. In the medium term, carbon will come from CO2 captured directly from the air, thus establishing a closed carbon cycle without additional CO2 emissions. In the project, several processes of mixture formation and combustion are to be studied, which, in particular, should significantly increase the efficiency of previous concepts. An open-ended approach to technology will be pursued, as a commitment to a particular mixture formation process (high, medium or low pressure injection, direct or port injection) or a particular ignition method will hamper the search for optimal solutions.

Applicants should have an above-average university degree in mechanical engineering and a high degree of willingness to engage in interdisciplinary work and research. Acceptance of the scholarship obliges your presence at the offices of the research group in Dresden three fixed days a week. Participation in the college’s teaching program is compulsory (24 ETCS in 3 years).
