Hyundai Verna 2023 – Diesel Engine, Bigger Size, Launch Details
Korean automaker Hyundai is gearing up to launch a wide range of new cars, including the new Ai3 mini SUV, Creta facelift, Ioniq 5 EV, new Carnival and next-generation Verna. In fact, the new generation Verna sedan has already been tested several times in the Indian market. The 2023 Hyundai Verna sedan will come with significant design changes and an all-new interior along with new engine options.
2023 Hyundai Verna – Diesel Sedan Only
With the upcoming stricter real driving emission standards, most car manufacturers are planning to phase out diesel engines from the Indian market. Honda has already decided to ditch the 1.5-liter diesel engine that powers the City and Amaze sedans. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki, Renault-Nissan and the Volkswagen Group have already withdrawn their diesel engines from our market.
On the other hand, Hyundai has decided to continue with the Indian market diesel engine option. We reported earlier that Hyundai will discontinue the i20 diesel from 2023. The majority of i20 sales come from petrol engine options and diesel accounts for less than 10%. Hyundai will upgrade the 1.5-liter diesel engine to meet real-driving emission standards. This engine will continue to power the Venue, Creta, Verna and Alcazar. The Venue gets the 100hp 1.5L diesel engine, while the new Verna, Creta and Alcazar will continue to get the 115hp engine with a Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT). The Venue’s 1.5L diesel engine comes with the fixed-geometry turbo. Apart from the diesel engine, the new Verna will likely come with 1.4L turbo petrol and 1.5L NA petrol engine options.
Hyundai Verna 2023 – Bigger Dimensions
Spy footage confirms that the new generation Hyundai Verna will grow bigger, which will mean more space inside the cabin. The larger size and spacious cabin will help the new Verna compete with Honda City, Skoda Slavia and VW Virtus. The larger size, premium features and more powerful engine of the new Verna will eliminate the need for a distinct executive sedan in our market.
Internally called Project BN7, the new Verna will share styling cues from the next-generation Elantra sedan. The sedan will be styled using Hyundai’s “Sensuous Sportiness” design language, which we’ve seen before on the new Elantra and Tucson. It will have a new parametric jewel-patterned grille with extensive turn signal integration. The new cascading grille up front features an integrated full LED headlight and aggressive bumper.
Spy images reveal the new Verna will have fastback styling with a tapered roof. The rear profile is likely to feature the high-tech ‘H-Tail Lamp’ which creates a Hyundai flying H logo shape, a wing-like lower bumper treatment and a tapered roofline to enhance the coupe appearance .
The 2023 Hyundai Verna sedan will feature a fully digital instrument console and a revised infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity. The sedan is likely to feature ventilated front seats. The biggest update will come in the form of ADAS ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) technology. ADAS features will include forward collision mitigation, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross traffic assist and driver attention monitoring .
2023 Hyundai Verna Launch Schedule
The new Verna sedan should be unveiled at Auto Expo 2023 in January. The exact launch timeline has yet to be revealed; however, reports claim that Hyundai has accelerated development of the new Verna sedan. We expect the new model to go on sale in the second quarter of 2023, around April-May.
