Wanted a Ram Power Wagon, but couldn’t pull the trigger because Ram won’t sell it to you with the Cummins diesel engine? Well, today Ram has an answer for you, and it’s the 2023 Ram 2500 Heavy Duty Rebel. Officially at least. Go ahead and call it Ram Rebel 2500 HD if you prefer. And if you couldn’t tell now, it’s heavy-duty truck week — Chevy released a refreshed Silverado HD earlier this week, and Ford unveiled its next-gen Super Duty shortly after.

Similar to the lightweight Ram 1500 Rebel, the HD version is a pickup with some off-road chops and a factory-straight off-road look. You’ll quickly notice that it looks a lot like a Power Wagon – Ram says most of the exterior design cues are actually shared with the Power Wagon. However, the Rebel differentiates itself with a Mopar “sports performance cap” and Rebel badging throughout. It comes standard with 20-inch wheels and 33-inch all-terrain tires, but Ram says 18-inch wheels will be available later in the 2023 model year. It includes a unique off-road suspension ( optional rear air suspension), four-wheel drive, 12,000-pound capacity Warn Zeon-12 winch, rear limited-slip differential, rear electronic locker, and skid plates to protect the fuel tank and transfer box. . Don’t expect it to outdo an all-terrain Power Wagon, as it doesn’t get beyond extras like the front-locking differential and electronic-disconnecting stabilizer bar.

The powertrain history might be enough to convince you of the Rebel’s side, however, unlike the Power Wagon, this Heavy Duty Ram can be equipped with the diesel engine. Ram still makes its 6.4-liter V8 the standard engine in the Rebel (as in the Power Wagon), and it produces a respectable 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of torque. This configuration won’t give you maximum towing capacity, but the diesel will, with a maximum of 16,870 pounds – a Power Wagon maxes out at 10,590 pounds of towing capacity. The 6.7-liter Cummins turbodiesel inline-six produces 370 horsepower and 850 pound-feet of torque in the Rebel. You get a six-speed automatic with the diesel, but the petrol engine comes with an eight-speed automatic. Maximum payload is 3,140 pounds, which is another big plus for the diesel-powered Rebel over the Power Wagon which peaks at just 1,630 pounds.

Inside, the Rebel can be fitted with fabric, Bristol leather or “Natura Plus” leather seats. Optional add-ons include a 12-inch digital gauge cluster, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring and other driver assistance features. It is only available in one configuration: Crew Cab with a 6ft 4in bed

Ram says the 2023 Ram Rebel will start at $68,940 including destination charges. Expect them to hit dealerships sometime in the fourth quarter of 2022 and Autoblog will drive it in a few weeks. Look for our notice from October 24.

  • Chevrolet announced the updated 2024 Silverado HD lineup on Monday.
  • This updated HD lineup adds a few new trim options (including a ZR2), powertrain upgrades, styling changes and improved technology.
  • The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD will make its public debut at the State Fair of Texas later this week.
  • After that, the new Silverado HD lineup will go into production at GM’s Flint plant in Michigan and the Oshawa plant in Canada in the first half of 2023.
    • It will be a staggered launch, with the ZR2 and select options from the rest of the 2024 Silverado HD lineup arriving later.

If you’ve been waiting on the edge of your seat for HD truck news, then you’ll want to stick around this week. First up, we have the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD, which enters the fray with a host of significant changes. While the styling changes are on par with the mid-life refreshes – and we get that right here – Chevrolet is also aiming to make its powertrains and technology more competitive with the current heavyweight pack.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD: Styling Changes

On the outside, Chevrolet says it has worked to give the truck a “more commanding presence” through its exterior design. What that means for you and me is a revised fascia, including an updated grille and headlight design. Depending on your reaction to the truck’s initial redesign in 2020, this could be a welcome change. Designers of the updated Silverado HD have incorporated the headlights into new C-shaped uninterrupted daytime running lights. Higher-end models get dual-projector LED lights, with an animated welcome/leave feature similar to what we let’s see with the updated Silverado 1500 line.

Other exterior updates include “CHEVROLET” script on the hood scoop, standard tow hooks (yes, Chevy was keen to mention that), and six new exterior colors. New shades include Sterling Grey, Dark Ash, Radiant Red and Auburn Metallic. Two late availability colors will be Lakeshore Blue Metallic and Meteorite Metallic. Features you’ll still get in this refreshed truck include corner and side bed steps, a six-position Multi-Flex tailgate (with a power tailgate option), and a 120-volt bed outlet.

2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD

Interior updates

Along with the exterior changes, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD also gets an updated interior, at least on most trims. WT and Custom base trims will retain the old design. The LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country models, meanwhile, have a much fresher look. This includes a new 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster seen on the Silverado 1500 and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs. Complementing this is a 13.4-inch infotainment screen angled towards the driver.

Chevrolet incorporated quite a few changes from the half-ton Silverado, including most of the switch layout, keeping most of the popular controls as physical knobs and buttons. Unlike the smaller truck, however, you still get a column shifter across the range. Other notable updates include many leather-wrapped items and wood trim on select models like the High Country. There’s a new center console with wireless charging available on LT models and up, and second-row passengers also get their own climate vents and controls.

Enter Powertrain Changes

While some people may worry about looks, the capability of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD is what really will make or break the deal. There’s (mostly) good news on that front, as we’re getting more power from the 6.6-liter Duramax turbodiesel. Not only that, but the 6.6-liter gasoline V8 also gets the Allison-branded 10-speed transmission, so pour one in for the old 6-speed. In fact, I doubt many people will actually miss it and appreciate the wider gear ratio spread to get the most out of this gasser’s available power.

Sticking with diesel first, though, here are the headline numbers: 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft of torque. That’s a substantial increase over the 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft figures of the old trucks, but it’s still not a “top notch” output. Torque, published to SAE J1349, is lower than both Ford (1,050 lb-ft) and Ram (1,075 lb-ft), in their highest horsepower configurations. Power-wise, it comes remarkably close to the 6.7L Power Stroke’s 475hp number; and it exceeds the 420 hp of the 6.7L Cummins.

As for how it hit those numbers, Chevrolet cited upgrades aimed at improving combustion efficiency. Engineers also improved the Duramax’s low-end torque performance, to make it more suitable for low-speed cruising or towing on steep grades. Of course, we’ll have to test this truck on the Ike Gauntlet to see how it performs compared to the previous truck to validate the automaker’s claims.

What about the gasoline engine: does it get more power?

The 6.6-liter gasoline engine, meanwhile, still develops 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. However, using four additional gears means smaller “steps” between gears. That should at least make the engine a little smoother, especially when towing, compared to the old transmission’s six-speed. As a result, Chevrolet says the 2024 Silverado HD’s GCWR with the 6.6-liter gas engine increases to 26,000 pounds, up from the previous model’s 24,000 pounds.

With changes to packaging and content, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD lose some payload capacity in some configurations compared to the old truck. Towing capacities are also changing, and we’ll have a more detailed “by the numbers” look at TFLtruck.com soon.. (Update: Check out a full comparison here.)

More technical updates: Adaptive cruise control now available

Coming back to the technological changes, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD does not stop at the digital cluster and the infotainment update. It also receives a slew of driver assistance updates, particularly in towing.

Adaptive cruise control while towing is the headline feature, allowing revamped models to account for increased trailer drag and braking distances when towing. The “Enhanced Clear Trailer” expands the current truck capability to include fifth wheel and gooseneck trailers. Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert extends the blind zone beyond the truck itself – a feature increasingly available in the truck market. The GCW alert is also built-in, notifying the driver if the vehicle and trailer exceed the GM-recommended GCWR figure (again, more on the numbers to come shortly). (Update: Here it is for your reference!)

The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD lineup retains its battery of cameras for its Bed View and HD Surround Vision systems. You still get up to 14 available camera views, plus Chevy’s in-car towing app. Built-in Google compatibility gives drivers access to texting, playing music, using maps, adjusting vehicle settings or controlling home devices via the Google Assistant.

On the safety equipment side, adaptive cruise control is new for the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD lineup. This complements the existing assist technology, including forward collision warning. Other safety features include front pedestrian braking, lane departure warning, a following distance indicator and automatic emergency braking.

New trim options including ZR2

While Chevrolet has gone to great lengths to talk styling changes and powertrain updates, that’s not all the 2024 Silverado HD has in store. In fact, it gets an off-road-focused ZR2 trim. Now this model will not be available until later in the year, after the initial launch of the revamped trucks in the first half of 2023. Then we’ll have more concrete information on what the ZR2 brings to the table.

The automaker also didn’t specifically mention a midrange “Trail Boss” trim. So it looks like we’ll get a Z71 package (the Z71 Sport Edition and Chrome Sport Edition stick around) and then the top-spec ZR2. To that end, we’ll have an option that, at least on paper, takes on the Ram Power Wagon and the Ford Super Duty Tremor.

On top of that, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado also gets a blacked-out Midnight Edition. Available exclusively with the High Country trim, you’ll get dark chrome accents in the grille, along with black badging. Gloss black painted 20-inch wheels are standard, while you can get larger 22-inch wheels if you want.

More to come soon from the State Fair of Texas

Interestingly, the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD has made its online debut just before the updated Ford Super Duty. Of course, it doesn’t take a marketing degree to figure out why on that one.

We’ll have more information about Ford’s heavy-duty offering soon, but there will be even more this week. We’ll have more in-person coverage of this updated Silverado Heavy Duty at the State Fair of Texas, where it’s expected to make its public debut in the coming days.

Pricing information won’t be available for some time, but we’ll analyze other truck numbers in the meantime and provide those updates when we can. In the meantime, watch our news video below:

However, the company has not yet shared any official information about the name of this SUV. But now discussions about this SUV are happening very quickly in the media. According to reports, the new SUV will be based on the X1 platform, on which the Tata Nexon was built. Its length can be about 4.3 meters. Interestingly, it will get a coupe-style roof and have a 50mm longer wheelbase, which will provide better space in the cabin.

It is expected that the rear overhang of the existing Tata Nexon will be raised and the wheelbase can be extended by around 50mm. Thanks to this, you will also get a better space inside the SUV. The biggest change will be visible on the exterior of this SUV, although the A-pillars and doors may be borrowed from the Nexon itself. It is said to have taller rear doors and a sloping roof which will complement the fastback design with more luggage space. Longer rear overhangs will improve legroom for rear passengers.

You will get these special features:

Although no information has been received on the specs of this SUV, it will get dual front airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), brake assist, signal emergency stop, vehicle stability management (VSM) . ), Electronic Stability Control (ESC) can be provided. As for the price, this SUV will be priced lower than the Harrier and it will compete with the Hyundai Creta in the market.

Powerful engine:

The SUV will likely be powered by a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that can deliver a maximum power of 160 hp. However, the 1.2 liter Revotron turbo petrol engine in the current Nexon petrol variant and the 1.5 liter Revotorq diesel engine are provided in the diesel variant. This SUV will be offered with a manual and automatic transmission gearbox. Now, it will be interesting to see what the company prices this SUV for. Currently, the Tata Nexon is the best-selling SUV in the company’s vehicle portfolio, which is one of the safest vehicles with a 5-star safety rating.

Turkey’s first armored unmanned surface vessel (AUSV), the first marine craft of the ULAQ project, will be powered by a locally developed marine diesel engine, the head of the company that manufactures the engine said on Monday.

Halim Tosun, managing director of TÜMOSAN Engine and Tractor Industry Inc., told Anadolu Agency (AA) that they manufacture engines for the defense industry and his company is among many projects launched under the presidency. Defense Industries (SSB).

For example, he said, “We continue to work on the production and integration of domestic engines into tactical wheeled armored vehicles”, as well as production for the Turkish Air Force Command.

Torun said he gained ground in the ULAQ project, which was developed by Ares Shipyard in cooperation with Ankara-based Meteksan Defense Industry Inc.

“We will make prototype engine deliveries this year,” he said, noting that significant steps have been taken to become a marine engine supplier in line with the Turkish defense industry’s recent push for the local production and the nationalization of systems.

“There are special needs in all elements of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), from 50 horsepower to 4,000 horsepower engines. TÜMOSAN plays an active role in meeting these needs with national and domestic subsystems, especially in engine powers of 550 horsepower and below,” the company leader said.

Stating that new developments and upgrading works will be carried out at the factory campus in central Konya province of TÜMOSAN, Tosun said, “When the works are completed, a significant contribution will be made to industry and society. Konya’s employment”.

Tosun said that the Konya plant land has been declared a special industrial zone and in this context an investment commitment of about TL 1 billion ($54.87 million) has been made to the Ministry of Industry and Technology.

Pointing out that 8 million euros have been invested in machinery, equipment and equipment so far, Tosun added that they continue to work on their investments.

The unmanned platform, ULAQ, was initially launched at sea in January and has begun test voyages. Then in May it was announced that the AUSV was ready to launch missiles.

The AUSV is the result of three years of research and development (R&D) activities carried out by Turkish defense industry companies. It has a range of 400 kilometers (249 miles), a speed of 65 km/h (40.3 mph), day and night vision capabilities and a nationwide encrypted communications infrastructure.

The unmanned, autonomous, remote-controlled marine product can be operated inside land vehicles, from the headquarters command center or on floating platforms. It can perform tasks such as reconnaissance, surveillance, intelligence, surface warfare, asymmetric warfare, armed escort and force protection as well as security of strategic installations.

It carries a pod with four laser-guided Cirit missiles and two laser-guided long-range anti-tank missile (L-UMTAS) launchers, both developed by another leading Turkish defense company, Roketsan.

The turbo-diesel has more BHP, torque, better fuel efficiency and better performance. The refinement is also first class.

Hyundai launched the 4th generation of its Tucson premium SUV in the Indian market earlier this month. The new Hyundai Tucson features an all-new design, in line with the brand’s latest “Parametric Design” philosophy.

The 4th generation Tucson is offered in two variants: Platinum and Signature, both offered with a choice of gasoline and diesel engine options. The Tucson is also available with an optional 4WD with the diesel engine.

So if you were to buy the 4th generation Hyundai Tucson, which engine option would you choose and why?

Starting with the gasoline unit, the new Tucson comes with a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine. It produces 154 hp at 6300 rpm and 192 Nm at 4500 rpm and is mated as standard to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

As for the diesel version, the 4th Generation Hyundai Tucson comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged diesel unit producing 183 BHP at 4000 rpm and 416 Nm at 2000-2750 rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission as standard.

Put the shifter in D, lift your foot off the brake pedal and the car smoothly leaves the line. Throttle response is good and power is delivered linearly with light throttle application. Since the Tucson has a very urban feel, we made sure to spend enough time driving the car through city traffic. And although the traffic on the Bangalore ring road was exceedingly unpleasant, the Tucson was not.

Driving in D, the engine was quiet and delivered smooth power. Switching the throttle on and off was also a smooth affair, meaning your passengers won’t have to worry about a jerky ride either. The gearbox upshifts fairly quickly. You won’t feel the gear changes as the transition is very smooth. Put your right foot down and you’ll feel some lag as the torque converter takes a second to respond. But after that you get a strong surge of power that will help you make those quick passes and close those gaps in traffic. Overall, the high seating position, good all-around visibility, light controls and smooth gearbox make the Tucson very easy to drive around town.

On the open road, where you can stretch your legs from the car, the Tucson is impressive. It accelerates quickly, and with the right insulation, you might not even realize the speeds you’re doing. Put your foot down and the retrograde AT to get you going. Overtaking on the highways is a breeze, but it’s best if you think ahead and prepare for the slight downshift delay. Even with the foot down, the AT won’t let the engine rev past the 4500 rpm redline (in manual mode as well). The engine feels quite relaxed when cruising over long distances. In 8th gear, at 100 km/h, the engine runs at a comfortable 1,500 rpm, while at 120 km/h the tachometer indicates 1,750 rpm.

Read the full official review here.

Here is what GTO should say about it:

In this age of supercharging, I find most NA essences to be boring. The Tucson’s 2.0 essence is “nice”, but that’s it. Not to mention, it’s the same engine you get in the cheaper Alcazar too.

The turbo-diesel has more BHP, torque, better fuel economy and better performance. The refinement is also first class. The diesel here is the obvious choice for me. The only reason to choose petrol is if you live in Delhi-NCR and want to keep the car for 15 years, you are a very calm driver, you don’t want to increase your budget from 2.5 to 3, 0 lakhs extra or you have very low functioning.

Voted for the awesome 2.0 diesel.

Here is what BHPiananjan_c2007 should say about it:

Going by the precedents and by the recent illogical decisions emanating from the judicial forums and also from the corridors of power at that time, a gasoline engine is still preferred by all those who prefer to keep the SUV for at least 15 years. The less capable petrol engine with its 154 BHP at 6300 rpm, 192 Nm at 4500 rpm and its 6-speed automatic transmission will be the choice.

Diesel as a fuel is harshly criticized by anyone who matters in the decision-making hierarchy but doesn’t understand the A’s, B’s or C’s of ICE technology. Therefore, in the near or distant future, diesel engines may face serious bottlenecks for their flawless navigation and their longevity is unpredictable.

But those who don’t care about the life of their machine and also prefer the more powerful and powerful engine of 183 hp at 4000 rpm, 416 Nm at 2000-2750 rpm with the 8-speed automatic transmission , might still prefer such a variant. .

The petrol variants cost around Rs 3.5L less than the diesel variants.

Here is what Sunikkat BHPien should say about it:

This is the simplest poll. More than impressed with the diesel engine, I’m disappointed with the petrol. A 2 liter NA engine has no business in a car that costs 40 lakhs. And then you compare the competition. Even cheaper, the Creta has a much better engine than the petrol Tucson. So diesel all the way.

Here is what BHPian vijaykr should say about it:

I had the chance to drive the previous generation, both diesel and petrol cars, and recently tested the 4th generation.

In my opinion, if the use is mainly intended for city driving (80% or 90%), then the Petrol car seems adequate to me. I didn’t find it too much of a problem with it at some peak times and some small portions of light traffic.

Diesel was (is) a whole different story. It’s much more eager to move forward with enough power to keep moving quickly through traffic. And on the open road, it increases speed very well, and overtaking does not require much effort.

Even though there is a possibility of diesel restrictions in the future, I personally would only go for diesel.

I voted for diesel.

In brief News reported that Isuzu Motors South Africa has invested R580 million to support component localization.

This investment includes supplying the supplier tooling necessary to manufacture specific components for the recently launched all new seventh generation bakkie D-Max.

It has been a four-year journey for the Japanese company and a journey they have traveled with their local suppliers as they embarked on a new sourcing strategy in early 2018. The process included classifying local suppliers who had the technical capability to manufacture a list of branded components needed for the new bakkie.

Localization is the process by which an increased percentage of a motor vehicle’s parts and costs are either assembled or manufactured in South Africa rather than imported.

This process represents a significant opportunity to transform the automotive sector and usher in Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) participants into its supply chain. The automaker has maintained an industry-leading B-BBEE Level One for the second consecutive year.

For months we’ve been exploring big news from GM on the LZ0 diesel engine. Although a few updates were “leaked”, nothing was really serious until today. GM has officially released details of the LZ0 3.0-liter straight-six engine, which is the second edition of its Duramax six-cylinder. Select trim packages for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 will receive this turbocharged engine.

So, what’s up with this device? The LM2 gone, the LZ0 will gladly take over. This new engine is rated at 305 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque, representing a 7.6% power increase. To compare, the LM2 only made 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft. This makes it the most powerful diesel mill in GM’s 1500 pickups.

Once you start peeling back the layers of the LZ0, you’ll see it features upgraded steel pistons, a revised combustion bowl, retuned turbocharger and fuel injectors, and also benefits from improved temperature control. GM took your concerns on board, looked at the problematic (or at least potentially problematic) areas, and built from there. The next generation of light diesel looks promising.

“These enhancements to the popular 3.0-liter Duramax build on the already advanced design of the first-generation engine,” said John Barta, GM’s assistant chief diesel engine engineer. “We often hear from customers expressing their satisfaction with the outstanding fuel economy and quiet, smooth power of today’s diesel engine, so we look forward to them experiencing this advanced engine made possible by the evolution continuous design and advancements in engine technologies.”

The new 3.0-liter LZ0 turbocharged diesel engine will be available under the hood of select 2023 models, including Custom Trail Boss, LT, RST, LT Trail Boss, LTZ and High Country. The new Duramax LZ0 diesel engine will mate exclusively with GM’s 10-speed automatic transmission. Engine assembly will take place at the GM Flint Engine Operations plant in Michigan, and availability is expected to open by the end of calendar year 2022.

Who’s ready? I know we are.
